After the first spy shots and a look at the clay design model, AutoExpress had a good base to make this rendering of the future McLaren P11 supercar. The P11 will go on sale in 2010 and will move the company sightly more mainstream as it competes with models like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari F430.

The design of the P11 may be trying to connect it with the McLaren F1. The large dual-gill air intakes are almost an inverted version of the F1’s brake vents; the wraparound sideglass takes a similar hilltop shape; and front shares the same large hoodline with dual headlights under one housing. What is not expected from the F1 are items like the gold insulation in the engine compartment and the center driving position.

GAS powered this beast with a twin Magnuson supercharged 5.0L racing engine with custom ported 24-valve SOHC cylinder. The total output should top out at 1,005 horsepower. Roadster and Volante - these are the usual names for the open-top models from Aston Martin. But the topless version of the DBS may not follow the same rule.

An Aston Martin spokesman said that the company is still looking for a name suitable for the sports-car and that it “is not sure this will be Roadster or Volante.” The company is currently using the Roadster name for convertibles with two-seats and Volante for a four-seats, but the DBS is something a little more special that may deserve it own name.

Now that car keys have going electric (like having proximity sensors) have you ever wondered what else it may be able to do? How about a credit card? BMW announced that it is working on what it calls a “multi-functional” key. Developed in cooperation with NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, the new key could be used by drivers in order to pay general shopping, paying at the gas station, public transport, parking and road tolls, replacing the need for cash or additional cards.

Hey, this is pretty cool, seems that the VW Jetta TDi Cup, where they take diesels and actually race them, will be on TV. On the Speed Channel no less (ah, the need for off-season programming). The coverage starts Sunday, October 26, 2008, and is actually on at a decent hour.
