Need for Speed Undercover announced

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Car News | No Comments »

Not a suprise to anyone, NFS is getting biiger. A new version of the game is ready to be launched later this year. The new Need for Speed: Undercover will be inspired from movies like The Transporter.

The single previous Need for Speed team was split into two last year to allow each of the two teams more time to create yearly updates for the franchise. Rather than giving one team only 12 months to create the next installment, each team would now have a full two years, with the teams trading release years, obviously. Being that the team was only split last year, the Undercover team will only have a little over 16 months to create the title, but the extra breathing room must certainly welcome in any case.

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Mercedes-Benz | No Comments »

xMercedes is already working at the second generation CLS that will make its world debut during a major car show in late 2010 with sales following in early 2011. Big news is, that next to the standard engine, the future CLS will also be offered as a hybrid.

It will get the same powertrain as the forthcoming S400 Hybrid that will be launched at the end of 2009, which means that the CLS Hybrid will make use of lithium-ion batteries that not only weigh less but also offer more power than the nickel hydride units used in today’s hybrids.

Corvette ZR1 makes the Nürburgring in 7:26.4

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Car News | No Comments »

Corvette : GM has been very busy lately, they did the final tuning and testing there before we start Corvette  ZR1 production cars. And this morning the Corvette ZR1 was driven by General Motors development engineer Jim Mero around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26.4.

The car was bone stock with the exception of the communications and safety equipment. The tires were production Michelin Pilot Sport 2’s. These tires have been developed specifically for the ZR1 and will have impressive wet traction and wear (tread wear rating = 220), in addition to excellent dry road holding. Chassis alignment and vehicle height were set to factory specs. Likewise, the engine calibrations were absolutely stock, emissions compliant and the car ran on pump (not racing) fuel. The vehicle was exactly like the cars that will be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky and sold around the world later this summer.

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Volkswagen | No Comments »

Every week, we bring you pictures and videos of new cars taking a beating by inattentive drivers, buildings collapsing, drunken driving and sinking ships. Those incidents can be blamed on humans or mechanical failures but not this one.

A major hailstorm over the course of the last weekend harmed up to 30,000 brand new Volkswagen cars awaiting delivery to domestic and foreign customers. Little or nothing could be done by the staff at the VW assembly plant at Emden on the North Sea coast, as the number of vehicles were gigantic, and driving them or transporting them to a safe location was out of question.

2009 Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTEC, GL320 BlueTEC, and R320 BlueTEC

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Mercedes-Benz | No Comments »

More so than most auto manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz has been committed to diesel engines, which are inherently more fuel-efficient and often deliver more torque than their gasoline counterparts. Diesels can have downsides, however, including low power output, dirty exhaust, and a characteristic clatter.

Modern diesels have dramatically curtailed these negatives while preserving their efficiency advantage. But although the engines are very popular in Europe, many automakers are unable to sell them in the United States because of U.S. emissions regulations, which are not only very strict but differ from one state to another. This year, for instance, seven northeastern states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont) have adopted California’s more restrictive emissions standards, which very few diesels can meet.

The heart of Porsche has been beating for 70 years

June 29th, 2008 -- Posted in Porsche | No Comments »

It was on June 26, 1938 that Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG, as the enterprise was then called, moved from Kronenstrasse 24 in the center of Stuttgart to newly-built premises in the district of Zuffenhausen. In May 1937, Ferry Porsche had already acquired a site there at the address Spitalwaldstrasse 2 (as it then was), thus determining the location of the later Porsche factory. 70 years on, the building newly completed in 1938 still forms a central part of the factory complex in Zuffenhausen.
